Saint Priest and Popes

Saints, priests and Popes
Hang in the hallway outside the Masters room.
Parading faith and damnation before visitors,
Cursing them with proven piety
Mocking every failure to follow their example.

Fr David with his disapproving glare holds up the corner
While a soulful Joseph (or was it Anthony) gazes apocryphally at Calvary
An angelic St Teresa surrounded by flowers smiles.
While St Francis surrounded by animals
Displays his stigmata as if some sacred sore
Carried with it the secret of salvation.

But no sign of Jesus to forgive transgressions.

So with other conspirators I huddled
To concoct our lies
Beneath those knowing eyes.

And await Old Testament retribution.
