The Sound of Fury

A Tug boat deckhand named Ronnie Wycherley
played skiffle in The Formby Sniffle Group.
until he decided to become a Scouse Presley
slicked back his hair and sensibly
met Larry Parnes at the Essoldo
where
Birkenhead screamed its head off
and Billy Fury was born.

Long and lean with moody good looks
hunched stance had that legend touch
shy and a gentleman,
like Elvis (they met in L.A)
maybe its fate they’ve both gone away
because rheumatic fever
took its toll on his heart
and we lost him at forty two
a genuine Liverpool Icon
who rightfully has a statue
by Thom Murphy
a reminder thats nice
till we all meet him
