Here we are again
sitting in the sun
watching the kids
play football
the horses run
smoking a cigarette
the first footfall
Belfast - Liverpool
to the final one
and in the wind
the smell of rain.
Patrick said “Nana
was a great gambler”
he’s finding his feet
and I suddenly thought
this is the first summer
without her
then he said,
fists full of copper
“gambling’s fun”
and laughed
just like she used to
chasing numbers.
