A hundred years and two ago
in a Kensington abode
a little girl called Emily
was born in Molyneux Road.

Life was very simple then
no TV, cars or ‘phone
there was no electricity
until she was fully grown.

All the children in the neighbourhood
went to Butler St School
worked very hard on the three R’s
and the role of Liverpool.

The Methodist church in Cottenham Street
was a Sunday focal place
where the people sang their hymns of praise
prayed for the human race.

Emily, friends and sisters
have mostly passed away
but we know they still meet
in our other Liverpool today.
The fact she’s looking over us
helps us bear our load
the little girl called Emily
who lived in Molyneux Road
