Brave Bootle

In the May of 1941,
Bluebells bloomed
and bombs blitzed Bootle
Spring was in the air
and people
escaped to the countryside,
finding refuge
beneath the stars
while bombs blasted
Liverpool Bay
where the Ark Royal lay.
Brave Bootle,
blitzed beyond belief,
as from the safety of
poppy strewn
fields and hedgerows
your people watched
in terror and
dismay.
