Symbols of our City

We often take for granted
what's not before our eyes
Forgetting that there's more than clouds
underneath our skies

We see them last when leaving
and first when coming back
They've surely brought a tear or two
to many a sailor Jack'

When voyages are over
when long months at an end
It must be so appealing
to see once more a friend

They say our city's finished
when our legacy has flown
up to now they've been content
to nest here in our home

Part of our fine heritage
An emblem on our shore
The Liver Birds of Merseyside
May they stay for evermore
