The Merciless River Mersey

The night he fell into the cold black Mersey
December 30, 1860
One day shy of 1861
The night that should have been filled with excitement and fun
Perhaps he was showing off a little too much and didn't bother to keep his
eye on where his tiny boat was headed and young George Johnson, aged 16
drowned.

His father and mother wept endlessly on New Year's Eve at the mouth of the
Mersey
"Oh my boy," cried his mother, throwing a wreath into the water, watching it
slowly sink

"Oh my son," choked backed his father, nearly causing him to go over the
brink.

The Mersey can be so cruel at times, so very cruel.
