Reflections on the Mersey
Magnificent Liverpool Cathedral,
Standing so stately and tall.
Liver birds at Pierhead so high,
Silently watching the Mersey flow by.
The Beatles, John, Paul, George and Ringo,
Took the world by storm, by jingo!
It has football teams two,
One red and one blue.
To travel by tram,
Was an experience for many.
While a visit to the Festival Gardens,
Is now a distant memory.
I still recall the memory I treasure,
Eleven years old the joy and pleasure
of crossing the Mersey by ferry,
As sung by the Pacemakers and Gerry.
By Royal Daffodil and Iris,
Sailing from Pierhead,
All the way to New Brighton and Birkenhead.
