Poppies On The Cenotaph

There are Poppies on the cenotaph
do you see them as you pass through Lime street
or as you walk St Georges hall
there are Poppies on the cenotaph
so proud, for those who fall

There are crosses on the cenotaph
upon them are the names of men
who fought conflicts and wars, who died
there are crosses on the cenotaph
placed by those that cried

There are old men at the cenotaph
so proud to march, to bear the flag
determined to remember men their kind
there are old men at the cenotaph
who hide the scars of battle in their mind

There are people at the cenotaph
none taken in service, men, women, children
the innocents who died during the Blitz
there are people at the cenotaph
a part of far too many sadly missed

There are poppies on the cenotaph
for Scousers buried near and far
we will come to them every new November
there are poppies on the cenotaph
our simple way to show them, we remember
