The ebb and flow of Mersey dreams
A city bursting at the seams
With scaffolding and giant cranes
New shapes emerging in the frames

The Graces oversee the change
I wonder if they find it strange
From lofty growth to mild decay
The great place almost lost its way

Then pride returned and money flowed
Investment started, and it showed
Till finally it claimed a prize
That took the country by surprise.

Momentum gathers with the year
2008 is almost here,
when the world descends like a giant vulture
On Liverpool Capital of Culture
