The Liver Bird and his Mother

The Liver bird flew upriver with a stone in his beak
“Look mother” he said, “I have found a piece
of the greatest building in England.”

“Take it back” she said, “or the whole city will fall down”.

The Liver bird flew upriver with a piece of ice in his beak
“Mother” he said, “this ice reflects
all the beauty of the New World.”

“”Take it back” she said, “or our city will melt and drown”.

The Liver bird flew up the river so laden with seaweed
he could barely move his wings
“Mother” he said, “I don’t know what to do with this stuff”

“Put it down” she said. “It is enough. It is enough.”
