They came from Ireland's famine-ravaged shores;
from Cornwall's silenced tin and copper mines;
refugees from Scotland's Highland Clearances;
others from the neighbouring Cheshire farms and.....
all roads led to Liverpool.

Our ancestors - determined, resourceful to the core;
They travelled here to make a better life.
Joiners, shipwrights, printers, mariners all
who plied their trades upon the Mersey's shore and .....
all roads led to Liverpool.

Our city built on men and women such as these;
your power and beauty a testimony to their dreams.
We salute you - the sons and daughters of your toil.
May you rise from strength to strength, for evermore may...
