The Teddy Boy and The Beehive

There's a photo of my mum and dad,
jiving in my Auntie Lilly's.
It's 1965.
I'm not born.
My dad is wearing a pale blue nylon shirt
with a frilly cravat.
It has navy edging.
His right hand is up in a dancy gesture.
And his hair,
his hair is combed up sweet.
My mum is smiling, smiling,
down at the swirly carpet.
She wears a mini skirt and her hair is huge,
leaning forward like the front of a ship.

She came for my dad
but Liverpool made her stay.
